  1. 100%. Test kit arriving tomorrow so fingers crossed.
  2. I’ve ordered a test kit. Although isn’t artex white?
  3. Is Artex white in colour? This is grey, so would more than likely be plaster?
  4. Thanks, Might look into getting it tested, but it honestly just looks like plaster that has been ‘swirled’.
  5. Hello, currently removing skirtings from an older house and noticed the plaster in the halls has this patterned effect. Just wondering if it’s anything to be concerned about? We had an asbestos survey done in the rest of the property and all came back negative.
  6. Just an update, had the survey report come back today. All clear. Relieved
  7. Yea, that's a nice idea, would still require a lot of rerouting though
  8. That‘s reassuring, I will explore removal if the survey comes back with anything.
  9. We've actually bit the bullet and are getting a survey done instead. Would it be an overly big job to remove if it does come back as an ACM?
  10. Hey, We were looking at getting soffit downlights lights put in. Noticed when taking the ventilation covers off, there is a soffit above the pvc soffit, which would need to be drilled to accommodate the light fixture. Is there a risk in doing this? The house is from 1982, so wondering if the other soffit is an ACM.
  11. Not entirely sure if they are load bearing (for the roof at least). There is a water tank resting above that ensuite though, so it could be load-bearing? It is a solid floor, so I guess that would make re-routing more difficult. It's our forever home, so not too concerned about de-valueing, it would very much suit our needs better.
  12. Hello, We are looking at changing the layout of our main bedroom. Our current layout looks like the below. The image below is basically what we want (Merge the bedrooms into one), with the ensuite moved down slightly and a doorway at the end of the hall. Bedroom 1 would become a walk in wardrobe and bedroom 3 would become the master bed. Would something like this be overly expensive? Just looking to gauge what sort of ballpark figure we would be looking at. The house is a bungalow so this is ground floor.
  13. Hey, we are looking at removing a fireplace and putting in a sleeper with a wood burning stove. Would removing this be safe to do DIY? There is a decommissioned back boiler which was drilled when the house was converted to gas heating.
  14. Thanks for the help. Much appreciated!
  15. Thanks - am looking at this unit: Does this look ok as a replacement? Do you think I need to order any extra MCBs etc?
  16. Any particular brands you'd recommend? Are these any good: https://www.screwfix.com/p/british-general-fortress-16-module-10-way-populated-high-integrity-dual-rcd-consumer-unit/466px https://www.screwfix.com/p/british-general-fortress-22-module-12-way-populated-high-integrity-dual-rcd-consumer-unit-with-spd/208kr
  17. Is it ok just to upgrade the MCBs (I think that's what they're called) and keep the main unit? I'd be happy having a go at this, assuming I could just switch the main switch off and then change the MCBs.
  18. If I wanted to work on something around the house am I safer just knocking the mains off then?
  19. Worth an upgrade then 🤣
  20. Moved into house recently and the unit looks like this. How do I isolate power? There only seems to be a switch for the master and not individual circuits.
  21. Hey, I recently purchased a Drayton Wiser multi-zone kit to replace an existing Salus IT500 system (This was installed in the property before we moved in). I have attached the current wiring for the Salus system, the left white cable is from the isolator switch and the right white cable goes to the boiler. Can anybody assist with the wiring to the Drayton Wiser system? I'm wiring to a single zone heating system with a combi boiler (Ideal vogue C40 max) - This is the One Channel part of the wiring diagram.
  22. This is what we are dealing with. House was built in 1982.
  23. As much as we love the new house, neither of us are a fan of pebbledash, and would like to get a rendered finish. Is this possible to do without removing the pebbledash?
  24. FWIW, we got a home buyers report done prior to purchase and nothing was flagged, maybe just being paranoid?
  25. Over the next few years we will be doing work to the property, probably will replace lights etc in the hall, so probably worth getting it tested then.
