  1. What kind of things would the internal work be? I can't plaster but I can paint and carpet rooms but that's decoration and isn't included in the work/price.
  2. We want to convert the loft space into 2 bedrooms - we have 4 children currently sharing, 2 in each bedroom and as they're getting older we want them to have their own rooms where they can put their own desk and dressing table. My husband and eldest also work from home, and need separate work spaces. We can't afford to move and stay in the area which we need to for my elderly father who I visit every night, and we love the location of our house for our neighbours and children's friends. The larger of the 2 bedrooms would be come ours and have ensuite and walk-in wardrobe area. There is also under eaves storage. The existing roof space isn't high enough so we have to re-do the roof and raise by 50cm (which isn't a problem as the houses either side have higher rooves). We'd also put in a dormer to the rear and change the hipped roof to one with a gabled end. The plans have been approved and we've been quoted £80k for this because of the rising costs. We have saved £30k and had planned to borrow £30k. I had thought to save costs by delaying the ensuite and walk in wardrobe for a couple of years until we have saved more money. But this won't save as much as £20k. Are there any other areas we might make a cost saving?
