  1. Hi all, I'm having UFH installed upstairs using spreader plates and was planning on having 18mm chipboard as the subfloor. I've now heard about brioboard - has anyone else used these before? Obviously better than chipboard for the UFH. Mine would need to sit on the joists - would this be GIFA FHB? And is this all that's needed as subfloor? Lastly, price - I've had a Google, are the boards roughly twice as much as chipboard? Thanks!
  2. We've actually got 100mm in there. Sorry, I'm not completely understanding, should we move it up and put a little bit of wool just to push it out, or just wool?
  3. Ok great, thanks. The builder was happy to move the insulation up from below, but would wool be a better solution to ensure they are distended in this case?
  4. Hi, I've got spreader plates currently being installed, and at first they were installed incorrectly. The insulation was installed too low and so the plates bent from the joist down to the boards rather than being flat. They were also installed overlapping. This is now being rectified, however I'm a little concerned about the uniformity of the plates. If they were installed properly initially then the plates would be completely flat, however as they have been bent previously I'm concerned there might not be full contact between the plate and subfloor and so be less efficient. I've attached photos of the plates. It still needs to be redone (boards need to be brought up a little) but are the plates ok to use if installed correctly or should I just scrap them and get replacements to ensure uniformity? Thanks!
  5. Yep probably meant 18mm! I'm sure the builder said ply but could be wrong. Would 18mm chipboard be fine as the subfloor with UFH underneath it?
  6. Hi, I'm in the process of getting wet UFH installed upstairs. The current buildup is 100mm of insulation between the joists and then spreader plates on top. Most of this will be carpeted with the exception of the bathroom and en suite which will be tiled. My builder is planning on putting 20mm ply down, but can't help wondering if there are any better alternatives to ply that will help conduct the heat but also be structural enough? I had a look at Hardie backer but from what I understand that's not structural so would still need ply. Is there something else I can look at, or am I worrying over nothing and the ply will be fine? Thanks!
