A detailed client brief and scope of services upon which you were engaging the QS, prior to appointment, would've saved all this hassle. IMHO any appointment of any professional without a clear definition of what they are being appointed to provide is destined to fail, unless you're v. v. lucky and each parties expectations magically align.
