  1. I'm curious if anyone has experience installing fire curtains and could offer some insights on the cost involved. Our house has a sizable open area that we'd like to maintain, and we're considering fire curtains as a possible solution.
  2. thank you, appreciate your detailed reply
  3. Thanks, for a new build, what do you recommend using?
  4. Hi John, we have had a few quotes for the MVHR installation for our new build. They will use four units to cover the "basement, FF & two units to cover the GF". They have quoted for the Vent Axia units. What do you think is the best ducting I should expect them to quote for? One has quoted using rigid PVC - I read this is not good? shall I ask them to change? The other one is Galvanised spiral ducting to externals and to manifold boxes, with 75mm OD radial ducting system – x15 rolls semi-rigid ducting (50mtrs). I come across the semi-regid is more prevalent in domestic installations, is this ok to use? or any other suggestions? Anything else I should be looking in the quote to make sure I am not missing any?
  5. what type of ducting are you using? rigid PVC / semi rigid / Galvanised spiral ducting or any others?
  6. The first floor roof space will be around 155 sqm (we do have some more flat roof on the GF but not sure if they would install there? Do you think 16kw Pv can go in 155sqm of flat roof?
  7. Our insulation is 75mm Celotex, and all three floors will have underfloor heating and triple glazing. This should keep the house warm, reducing the average energy usage to less than 20kw (I hope). Regardless of whether we export energy or not, do we still need permission from the grid?
  8. Ours is a Flat roofed new build (600 sqm), the shell will be ready by Feb'23. We plan to install MVHR (Vent Axia) & ASHP (16 & 12kW Samsung Monobloc Heat Pump & a 400/130L Pre-Plumb - 4 Zone Cylinder). We also wanted to do Solar to the max possible. Our intention is not to sell anything back to the grid and want to be kind of self-sufficient and use it from the battery storage. If we have an average usage of around 22kw, what is the solar panel size needed? I am thinking of going for around 25kw battery storage.

  10. please let me know if you have anyone who can quote me, I can try before completely ruling out. I would prefer something other than boiler but if they are not hugely expensive to install/run.
  11. I will need two heat pumps to cover the whole building, if it was smaller then you are correct. With the size of around 590 sqm, one is not enough and when we go for two the cost goes up and cant see if I can ever recover the cost.
  12. not sure, i am not a techie, its a flat roof building with UFH throughout.
  13. Total electricity consumption 13277 kWh / yr Estimated Heat Pump fuel cost £3,757 Estimated fuel cost for boiler £5,043 per year
  14. and the installation cost was around £25k
