  1. Thanks nick, the loft has 3 purlins, 1 on each of the external walls, semi detached. It’s not half lapped from what I can see. I’m sorry I’m not very technical, I did a 2 year carpentry course with my employer as a secondary apprenticeship but as you could imagine it’s not very thorough and through lockdown didn’t get to college much and didn’t end up passing. so you mean use the 9x2s straddle the opening like a lintel?
  2. I think it’s a 9x3 and it spans 4.5m I just want to have 2 ft of the wall left in and make a right turn in to the other room and return to the external wall
  3. Hi all I’m new to the site, my first task is to make the bathroom bigger. I want advice with this. As you can see in the photos what the issue is the wall I want to take down Is supporting the purlin via a 3x3 timber. Can I just build a frame on a plate out of 4x2 across the whole of the way across the joists or is there a better way of doing this? thanks in advance
