Hello,

I'd like to ask about whether our communal stairwell needs an AOV vent.

Our building is a large 3 storey Victorian property with 5 flats (basement, ground floor, first floor, second floor, attic). It is taller than 11m.

I read online that if you have a mixed fire alarm system with simultaneous evacuation, an AOV might not be necessary. Is this true?

We have linked fire alarms in the stairwell and inside each flat and ours isn't a 'stay put' building.

Thanks :)

Well you'll be subject to continuing control under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order for the common parts. You could try asking the local fire authority for fire safety advice.

If I recall correctly Velux make a AOV rooflight with linked detectors as a kit based on their normal range if one is needed.
