Best way to connect flat roof to pitched roof

Hi guys,

 

Can you please advise what is the best way to connect flat roof rafters to this existing pitched roof. See photos.

 

I am thinking either remove the top course of facing bricks, put a new 3"X2" wall plate and sit the rafters in top.

 

Or attach joist hangers to the existing wall plate and hanger the rafters off them.
