New Members in West Oxon

Recommended Posts

Hello

We are Debbie and Ian undertaking a self build in West Oxon. Having previously done self managed and hands on renovations, refurbs and extns on all our previous properties we decided our retirement project should be a new build - managed by us, with a substantial amount of doing by us as well.

After much research (Debbie - mostly) we settled on MBC, substantially driven by customer feedback and the fact that they offer the foundation slab option, air tightness taping and testing. They also appear to be pretty flexible. Despite Covid we have just had the foundation raft completed in 8 days, so far all appears to be OK.

The frame erection starts w/c 8 June and should take about 2 weeks, fingers crossed for all that.

The next key job for us (our roofers) is the roofing, slating mostly, in our case. This is causing a little concern in that Eco Haus Internorm have proposed dates for window/door install which could well coincide with, or be before, the roof is finished. All our windows actually sit outside the timber frame (supported on Compacfoam) so the inevitable concern is do we put off the window install until after the roof is finished to avoid potential damage or install them and seek to provide additional protection to them? We can't be the first ones to experience this dilemma so any views or previous experiences to inform our decision making on this would be very welcome.
