  1. Not unless you have sucker marks on the aluminium. ? Just have a bucket of fresh water at the ready if your worried but upvc cleaner is the only method we found of removing sucker marks. You’ve got to remember solvents disperses in air. You’d apply it to a cloth and clean as you please.
  2. Oh and for the marks from the suckers I tend to use a upvc solvent cleaner and that should after a couple of cleans remove these.
  3. Thanks for the advice guys appreciate it. Specially in regards to the Juliet balconies as there are three of them. The main reason for not going with wood is purely because the top half of the house will be clad in Siberian larch that will turn grey and I just think the wood isn’t necessary. Would be the only colour in the house not to match anything so I would rather spend the money I save else where.
  4. Evening/morning and afternoon. hey guys just after your thoughts really on what 30k should/could get me with internorm. I’m only after Alu clad upvc due to the pine not really matching the feel of the house. I’ve had a quote for £28k for around 48m2 of glass. This doesn’t include a front door or rear but it does include three of their special Juliet balconies which I love and two lift and slides at 4metres wide. Part of me thinks this is a fair deal but is there some of you that think I could do better due to the fact it is mainly upvc after all. thanks jas
  5. Haha. Going for one lift and slide and making the other in to a picture frame scene for the garden instead. No need for two really. I’d prefer a back door as we have little dogs who are always in and out. Cool that would be great thanks.. I like to be as efficient as possible so would much appreciate a different take on building methods. Thanks Russell
  6. I’ll get the bits you wernt happy about. Please do tell. that’s what he’s trying to do but with the dreaded covid he’s struggling a little and it doesn’t seem to be all the craze at the minute in the southeast. I’ve been trawling for as much info as possible. I do think they will come down in price if I’m honest as I’m going to lose the lift and slides which will hopefully bring most of the 7grand installation cost down. Plus I will talk to norskan as you suggested.
  7. Haha. I’m defo not up for fitting leaky windows. Far from it. I’d just prefer to understand the benefits from fitting awesome windows. Never delved in to the world of triple glazing and the most expensive anything window related I’ve bought was a couple sets of bifolds and they only come in to there own in the summer time. So I guess I know what I’m getting with nudura and concrete etc but I’m not overly sure about necessarily needing windows made for -30 degree climate. Chris is a lovely guy. Likes to ring or email me atleast once a week. He’s trying to organise a trip to see a current build for this coming week.
  8. Southeast England. Little place called Kent. I emailed them over the weekend so hopefully they will get back to me in the week. I have looked at so many. Most of the windows I’m having are sealed units. Apart from 5 doors. I’m just not sure if I want to spend £30gs plus on windows living in the garden of England. Oh really. How did you get on with it. I’m dealing with a guy called Chris oram at the minute. There trying to get me on a training course at the end of the month to aid me in the build. Looking forward to that part. The windows not so much.
  9. Evening guys. Like the title suggests I’ve been an avid scroller looking over years of content to help push me in the right direction but think it’s time to sign up and ask for advise from you guys. I’ve finally achieved a breakthrough in my planning application and in the final stage of building reg drawings. My advise is going to be on a self build I hope to get underway in March with weather depending. I’ve gone the icf route as I’m building it in to a bank. I was going to have a 1st floor in sips but they’ve come back with a silly price and don’t want to get involved in the 1st floor contraction/ detailing so I thought stick with the icf by nudura. It’s a flat roof construction as I will be having a wild flower roof and solar panels so my neighbours continue to enjoy their view. I’m sure I’ll post questions along the way but being in the building game for a wee while I know enough to construct most things myself but I’m at a loss at the minute when it comes to windows. I’m not building passive by any means but the roof and floor will come in at 0.12U and I’m told the icf will be 0.16. I’ve probably got 35m2 of north facing windows. I’ve had a quote for internorm as I love the Juliet balconies they do but was wondering if you guys think I need to go as deep into passive house windows as they are. Is there possibly other manufacturers that would be cheaper but almost achieve what internorm offer and do I need these low arse figures. I do want as e o friendly house as possible. All be it from a monolithic concrete structure I know!! Many thanks for any advice. jas
