600x760mm is the shaft. The manhole cover itself is 600x600mm. Thanks for the info re. the water company owning it. Guess I should ask them just to be sure it won't be a concern in future.

Hi all. We have a manhole cover in our garden that covers a main sewer line. We want to replace it for a recessed manhole cover and blend it into a new block paving path we'll be adding. The problem I'm having is figuring out the size I need. I have read that you need to measure the size of the drain shaft (clear opening). This measures 600mm x 760mm. It appears to be quite difficult to find a replacement of this size. Another website that I've recently come across has said that i need to measure the internal size of the current frame. Currently, the manhole cover is a VERY heavy cast iron cover that measures approx. 600mm x 600mm (internal frame measurements). There are no gaps and the weight/appearance of the thing suggests it's the original manhole cover. Will I need to search for a 600x760mm manhole cover, is there such a thing as a reducing collar that I should use or, if the current cover is 600x600mm then can I simply remove it and replace it with the same size? Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi all, I'm hoping someone can provide some guidance. We have a drain pipe running diagonally through our garden (public pipe that showed on the searches when we purchased the property). There is a manhole cover in the centre of our lawn. The problem we have noticed is, when there is VERY heavy rain (once or twice a year) the drain pipe can't handle it. The water backs up and starts coming out of the manhole cover. It doesn't look or smell like raw sewage, but there are old bits of tissue, and clumps of stuff littering our lawn afterwards. We've got young kids who love playing in the garden so this ruins it for them. Is it our responsibility to rectify as the manhole cover is on our land or is it the water company's responsibility as the drain can't handle the volume of water? Can we run a pipe from just below the manhole cover to a soakaway at the bottom of the garden (the garden slopes down, away from the house)? Do we just have to live with it? Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi all, Firstly, apologies if this is a stupid/naive question. I've been looking at 'wall starter' kits to try and understand how to use them on a single skin wall that we need to rebuild. I have seen a YouTube video published by Toolstation for a BPC kit. There is a section that states "The vertical joint between the existing wall and the outer leaf of the new wall must be weathersealed either with pre-compressed sealing strip or polymer based pointing". I've searched Google and can find some admixes (SBR, etc) that I'm guessing it's required to create 'polymer based pointing'. So my questions are, what is 'polymer based pointing'? Is it just a normal mortar mix with a polymer additive, and scan anyone recommend any products that they've used successfully? Thank you.
