Hello. I recently purchased a 1930s semi detached property with a strip of land at the side. The land was formerly an orchard. At time of purchase there were 2 large (c50 ft, c120 years old) English oak trees not subject to TPOs. Plan was to fell and extend. After completion Council put 2 TPOs on the trees. 1 was found to be dead and so felled, the other healthy and stays-5 meters from the house! Planning permission has been obtained but one of the conditions is that mini pile and beam foundations are used over the root protection area of the oak tree. First quote £7k. There is sandstone 1 feet below ground level which I know from neighbours who have extended, has meant building control is content to build on so trench will be shallow where pile and beam not required. Awaiting arboriculturist’s method statement but budget has been blown by the consequences of the TPO. Any views on quote or recommendations for piling companies in Worcestershire/south Birmingham area or views generally? Thank you.
