  1. What height limitation is there for a 100mm single wall that is used as a retaining wall? The height I'm looking at is 420mm. I could turn the stone around and have a 140mm thick single leaf wall but the height would then be 500mm. Is this ok?

  4. According to Redlands website the Regent tile can be used for roof pitches down to 12.5 degrees. Does anybody know if at 12.5 degrees you fit them like a regular tile or is there anything else that needs to be done with it being low pitch. I have emailed redland but they havent got back to me.
  5. Thanks, the structural cals has already being done. Your comment about alot of weight bearing on a small area was my concern and I'm not sure I want it to go back to structural and then building control. I might just take the hit and do it without any windows...just thought it might look better with windows. The extension will have 5.6m bifold doors and three large velux roof windows so it should be enough.
  6. I will try to make as much sense as I can and I hope this is in the correct section. We are getting a single storey extension to the rear of the house. We are designing an open plan kitchen and when the rear wall is removed a structural beam will be placed across the rear of the house. I am designing the kitchen and would like to place two windows above the work surface but I am worried that the one on the right will affect the strength of brickwork supporting the steel work above. If the windows are not directly below the new steel work is it ok? and is there any way widows can be placed below this steel work? Thanks in advance, I have included a sketch to help with my explanation.

  8. Thanks for the replies. Bosch have told me that I cant stick the hob down but I have to use a glue to stick the brackets to the worktop. I just have to find a high temp glue that is used for stone and metal now
  9. Has anyone fitted an induction hob into a quartz worktop. I've bought a bosch induction hob and cant figure out how it is fixed to the worktop. The hob comes with rails that are screwed into the side of the appature that is cut in the worktop and then the hob clicks into the rail. I dont think you can screw into quartz and the instruction states not to stick the hob down? It's a bosch PXY875KW1E if that helps.
  10. That's exactly what I want. When the consumer unit is fitted we will replace the tails between the consumer unit and isolator. Did they also replace the tails between the main fuse and the meter?
  11. How did he remove the seals on the meter? Its sealed and it's an offence to remove them?
  12. Does anyone know if british gas will replace my 16mm meter tails with 25mm meter tails when they replace my smart meter? I've installed a 100amp isolator and was hoping they would replace the tails between the fuse and smart meter and then between the smart meter and isolator, then when my electrician replaces the consumer unit he can just shut the isolator and replace the tails from isolator to consumer unit. The lady on the phone said she would note it on the request but just wondered if anyone has had this done?
  13. So, I'm 99% sure I'm going for a downdraft extractor in my new kitchen island (the joists above are going the wrong way for a ceiling extractor and there are also new beams installed). Question is when I route the duct work under the new floor I'm guessing it has to then come back up the internal wall and then through to the outside? How high off the floor does the duct need to be for building regs? Is anywhere ok along as its above the damp course?

  15. Thanks for the reply mate, the cheaper ones I have seen come with a 10 year warranty...or so I am told. I am concerned about the less quartz more resin comment though. I dont want it to be softer. Also a little concerned about the polish, I want the white to be white and shiny.
  16. It's two seperate questions I guess but as far as quartz go is there really that much difference in quality between manufacturers? There seems to be a vast price difference avaliable for the same style. Silestone seems to be one of the most expensive but you can get similar fir half the price...is there really that much difference ir are you paying for the name? Also as far as cabinetry materials, what is the best to go for, or what questions should I be asking when I go looking at new kitchens? Thanks in advance
  17. Lizzie, what height pans do you get away with on the bora so it still extracts? I'm thinking about the steamer situation where the pan top may be 30cm above the hob?

  19. Interesting you mentioned you would choose bora over bosch etc...why is that? Have you used others before the bora? I'm trying to figure our the differences but there seems to be little info on bora..extraction rates/price etc

  21. I've been looking at a bosch induction hob with integrated downdraft. Not sure what the difference is between this and the bora?....cant find a price for the bora basic online either...kinda strange.

  23. That does look awesome. Unfortunatly my ceilings are not that height and with the beams something like that might look silly. I would much prefer a ceiling extract...is that luxair?

  25. I really need some help with down draft extractors. I would prefer to have a ceiling extractor above our soon to be installed kitchen island but with the structural beams I dont think it's possible so I'm stuck with a down draft. The duct will have to go into the concrete floor and I'm guessing come back up the inside wall and then through to the outside. I'm struggling with the concept of hot air going down and I'm also struggling with stopping grease entering the ducting because in essence you create a u bend. Does anyone who has installed one like this have any experience...do the actually work?
