  1. Thanks guys I'm glad it's metric! Interesting conversation too. When I measure my waist (fitness fanatic) I use cm/mm because the gradations are smaller (so more accurate) but covert back to inches in the spreadsheet.
  2. Morning all What are the best (i.e. easiest) units to use for a UK build? With particular reference to concrete and steel fabrication?
  3. Good effort @SteamyTea ! I can munch half a Thai Green ok, a Scotch Bonnet would be a bit masochistic for me!! Gaudi's too twiddly for me, but it's probably amazing and inspiring to visit Barcelona for a week. Fun to look at is part of the plan @saveasteading - if I actually go ahead with it I'll be looking to sell quite quickly and build #2. How's that for naive optimism? 🤣 Rain could pour of a corrugated roof into a fish pond or a gravel bed (cheaper), but you're right - it will pool in places and lead to corrosion. If the design doesn't allow roof panels to be replaced easily it'll be a bad design. I still think the Modernist dream is worth pursuing...
  4. Thanks guys and thanks @TheMitchells - I had to check how to spell 'pavilion' - I thought it was double L, but apparently not!
  5. Hi all, Aspring self-builder in the Borders. Fan of the Barcelona Pavilion and Brutalism (sorry if that offends anyone!), hoping to build something along those lines. My background is in science, so I'm thinking in terms of energy, water efficiency, passive thermal management... Also interested in using as many commodity items as possible to keep costs down and simplify maintainance. I like vindaloos and minimalism, hence the name. Thanks admin for approving my account!
