  1. I have lived in the house for two winters and with the heating on full blast I can just get it to 20-21 degrees but the air quality still feels cold as I am sure we have a high humidity but no mold growth. i added a stronger extractor to the bathroom and set the timer delay to max. its fine house, nice private aspect but its the comfort factor that is motivating me to want to fully renovate it.
  2. Hello Ambient. I am actually replying to your post last year where you were deciding what to do regarding external insulation and dealing with old 70's urea formaldehyde insulation. I have exactly the same challenge and I wondered what you decided to do in the end? I think my bungalow is early 70's. Big windows, very wide soffits (600mm), suspended floors with nice mature T&G floor planks. Mine has a 20 degree pitch roof with black mastic roofing felt and when you investigate the eve's you see there is only one breeze block between the top of the inner leaf of the rooms uninsulated to the open air outside? Plus the insulation is shrinking and powdery. Mine appears to have a cavity of about 90mm so I really can't age it. I would like to do a roof lift to a 1.5 storey and fill the cavity with polyeurethane foam and external wall insulation that connects to the roof insulation. I am very concerned about damp occuring in the wall which won't reveal itself for decades. Lot of labout just having the old insulation removed and I don't really want to build a new house with current build costs as they arey. What did you do in the end and are you happy with how it went. if you went for new built walls, what was the reasoning for not usinng EWI. I thought that the cavity must be at least blocked to stop air flow otherwise it kind of diminishes the effect of EWI. thanks Vitoman
