  1. It definitely is a bumpy road, but the wife and I haven’t fallen out (yet) and we are seeing progress! All we can do is keep moving forward 😀
  2. Hi, sorry for such a long post as my first! I’ve been on my self build journey for significantly longer than ever planned (no real surprises there I guess!); I’ve weathered many storms, literally and metaphorically in that time but I’ve recently hit something that has me totally stumped… I placed my window order through a company that have since gone into receivership. They have a little over £8k of my money, mostly as a deposit for un-produced windows, however two were made and sent at the point of order and it’s these two windows I’m having issues with… The windows were spec’d as 40mm triple glazed, with internal and external astragal bars. When they arrived, they didn’t have the astragal bars fitted, but they do have the glazing spacer bars fitted (albeit even one of those is missing in one pane!). The other issue is the external foiling on the floating mullion was cut short on the top and bottom. i discussed this with the supplier at the time and had reassurances that all would be rectified when the rest of the order went through. Fast forward a few months and they were in receivership! Luckily I had paid the monies by CC, but having begun the claims process, the CC company are requesting a full report on why the current windows are not suitable to used. I have spoken to Deceuninck themselves who state 40mm 3G isn’t available with internal and external astragal bars, but they won’t write it in the format required by the CC, and I’ve tried countless Deceuninck suppliers, some of whom are unwilling to help at all and others have told me they’ll only write the report if I order windows from them, which I can’t because they can’t make 40mm 3G with astragal bars! I’ve tried local glazers and keep getting the same results as above. I actually have three e-mails saying the windows need to be replaced but because it isn’t in the correct format, the CC are refusing my claim as it stands. Does anyone have experience of anything similar? Does anyone know of glazing surveyors (is that even a job?!) or is there anyone in the trade who could be willing to assist with the report? Full wording required as follows… “I write with reference to your dispute. I need the following information: Independent assessment. Whilst the report does need to be arranged by you with an independent specialist of your choice, the report produced will need to include all of the following: The full company letter head and contact information of the chosen VAT registered assessor. A detailed description of all of the faults, damages and defects present and, where possible, details on the probable cause of those faults. If they can be repaired, the specialist will need to supply a cost to conduct the repair including parts, labour and VAT. If they cannot be repaired, we will need a detailed reason as to why it cannot be repaired.” If anyone is able to offer help, I will be very grateful and payment is available for any budding (professional) report writers out there…. Thanks for reading, Mark
