Hello folks, I'm a bit confused after inspecting my verges. The verges are needing redone, under cloak has deteriorated and coming away along with the mortar. Barge boards are also rotted in areas seeming in relation to the failed cloak/mortar over the distance so will also be replaced.
When i removed the concrete tile and barge ive found that the old cloak had been fixed to the top of the roof battens rather than below as i understand and had planned to do when rebuilding. The Barge board then was butted to the bottom of cloak ( or fixed prior to cloak, level with roof battens.
Does anyone know if this is a thing sometimes carried out for a reason. I can only see that it make the mortar bed shallower by raising the cloak as the tiles finish at the verge edge with a half arc ( also the Lip of the tiles verge side have had a few inches removed/cut off so as the cloak is not then preventing the lip from catching the batten. I hope i make sense, i have no photos as yet unfortunately.
any thoughts most welcome,
thanking you
PS the verge is above a timber ladder overhang with 50 mm cloak overhang from bargeboard face
