  1. Back to the original photo, would it be a stupid idea just to take out about 2 feet of the gravel to get it down to the damp proofing and then just have somebody build a deck walk-way at the height the gravel is now? Solves the garage damp issue and makes for a nicer walk-through area.
  2. No, the gutter was leaking.....all fixed. The water had been running down the wall from the roof...fixed. The dampness was just an issue with the gravel built up about 2 feet over the damp proofing, and even though that isn't as bad as dirt pile up against the wall...it still just held the dampness against the wall. The side of the garage showing and the end and a little around the corner are the only parts of the garage that have the built up ground. To keep the dampness out of the garage I will need to either do the cheap slurry method I was thinking about doing, or build some kind of a wall a little out from the garage wall....which would mean getting somebody in to do it....which means even more £££. If you look in the back of the photo, you can see an area that has large pavers, around the garage to the left.....it's a large patio area we are taking out completely (I'll copy below). I had thought about taking those slabs and putting them in the ground upright one brick away from the wall and using a lower and upper brick to keep the wall from caving in towards the garage....but now that is turning into a major construction project. My wife would like it to look good....and if I were to do it....it wouldn't. I'm good at breaking things and digging holes.....making things look nice isn't my strong point.
  3. Moved into this house in August. Damp walls in the garage so I dug out the pathway between the house and garage to get rid of the moisture. It worked, only damp patches are up at the far corner. The damp proof layer is near the bottom of these two "canyons" I have dug out....probably a good 2 feet under the top gravel walking area. Our plan is to turn the back steps sideways to run along the house towards where the picture is taken from, but I'm not sure of what my options are for the garage to keep the moisture out. We have already spent a ton of money getting the inside of the house fixed up....it was not well taken care of. The only two options that I can see is building a wall a little out from the garage that would give a nice air space....but jeez, the money that would cost (I'm not that handy). My lazy option is just to dig down another brick or so and put multiple layers of slurry on the wall to waterproof things and just clean and put the gravel I pulled out back in. The pathway is likely going to have pavers put down. This is a double...double garage. Someone added a double garage onto the original double garage. Any ideas?
