  1. One, try getting a plumber around here! Two, it might be Piss easy but getting a plumber, see one, and try getting one that likes to go out of his comfort zone from a fag packet sketch, I understand reading on the pages of FB heat geeks etc the bad news will always be more prevalent than the good news stories, but it seems depending where you are in the country and the amount of people installing systems that do not do what they're supposed to do is significant, or maybe these people are expecting too much from these systems, OR have been promised something they haven't been given. I've dropped a guy an e mail who is accredited by the Heat Geek scheme, but he's 1 1/2 hrs away from us 😟 so we'll see if interested.
  2. So when I've looked for a heat Geek, it brings up an installer local to us, only one mind you then has this caveat below, doesn't really inspire confidence, have they just registered on their website for more work? Heat pump installs performed by this installer are not guaranteed or monitored by Heat Geek
  3. So I have had time to read and look at what has been quoted to me so far, the logic air tank system used by EDF has a built in low loss header tank and others quoted have the buffer tank installed, what system doesn't have the set ups you mentioned above? Thanks for the explanation above.
  4. Can I ask what this means please, and why the alternative suggested is a better option? In simpleton terms😃 thankyou
  5. Many thanks for this information, it definitely arms me with some questions to go back with, such a variation of size of units and water storage etc, between two companies alone set the alarm bells ringing one quoting for 8.5 kw one for 5 kw! Both given same information, i think i need to go and do a bit more revision😃
  6. That's assuming there is a plumber to do the work or understand how it works in West Cumbria, it's above my knowledge grade, reading of too many crappy instals that have nothing but issues, obviously trying to avoid that.
  7. No we haven't had a full house HLC done, we thought that was carried out by the company that is quoting you, obviously with the information provided from myself giving build method windows and MVHR etc, or am I being naive? Should I be seeking an independent survey before approaching these companies? Again thank you, this is all helping me understand what I should/shouldn't be doing before i sign on any dotted lines
  8. Not sure I understand, I don't want to end up paying the extra £7500 for the ASHP due to misunderstanding of MCS rules by the installing company, I'm sure to install radiators and pipework to comply with the BUS scheme it wouldn't cost an extra £7500, but I need to understand this up front for budget, or am I not understanding something here?
  9. So basically the company that hasn't mentioned anything regards individual room heating and quoted us hasn't understood the MCS rules, thanks for the clarification👍
  10. HI Everyone First post on here, I have been getting quotes for ASHP for our new build, will be SIPS panel, Triple glazed and MVHR, I have conflicting conversations with some of the providers as to whether I need heating sources upstairs to qualify for the grant. As we are trying to be airtight as possible we thought that UFH downstairs and heated towel rails in the bathroom and en-suite upstairs with MVHR would keep us warm, we hadn't planned for anything else upstairs, two companies have priced and not mentioned anything about radiators or UFH upstairs and a couple of others have said we do need heating up stairs to qualify for the BUS grant. I cant find anything on the GOV website or any other websites that gives an answer to this, I don't want to sign a contract and then find that they cant claim the grant and we end up paying extra, and on the flip side I'm not sure I want to install something we never use because it's too warm, does anybody have any information that give a definitive answer to this? Many thanks in advance. Cheers Mark
  11. Hello everyone, just a quick intro, we have eventually got our planning (new build) to a point where I can start engaging with contractors to start work (Taken over 5 years dealing with the Lake District Planning Board!) nothing special, the LDPB made sure of that and in the time its taken construction costs have increased significantly ☹️ So be prepared for possible stupid questions, lots has changed since we completed our barn conversion 20 odd years ago. Cheers Mark
