  1. Scotland have got it right if I had known I should have had it done at design stage however 2 years to obtain planning permission things have changed we have 90mm wingspan cooltherm in the walls 150mm wingspan in the floor 200mm wool between floors and 300mm in the loft ,triple glazing and air to air heat pump with air conditioning ( which isn’t recognised in saps) but we are still 1 kw short ( everything will be sealed for airtest
  2. We have a big peak at the front and a big dormer at the back so there’s only room for 5 panels and we have air to air heating and air conditioning and a Mixergy hot water cylinder so don’t need loads of solar
  3. I agree there forcing renewables on to self builders to meet saps and then putting obstacles on your way to make it harder for you to do
  4. Self build roof going on next week and 5 inbuilt solar panels we’re going to be included-I emailed the planning dept on the 27th of December to see if I neede planning permission the replied 17th of January saying if I add them after the build is complete I don’t need planning permission but if there integrated into the roof the I need to apply for a planning amendment I cannot stop the build as every trade is booked in - I didn’t include solar panels in the design as planning went in October 2022 before the new building regulations and sap changes but because of the length of time planning took finally passed dec 2023 the regulations changed as the build didn’t start while may 2024 -I’m only looking at 5 inbuilt solar panels just to satisfy saps any help greatly appreciated
  5. My build is 112 sq m over 2 storeys a2a heating and Mixergy hot water cylinder 3 adults = 3 x 8 min showers in the morning and 2 baths and 1 8 min shower in the evening plus heating and cooking- I’m just trying to avoid £300 plus per month bills in the winter - electric rate about 23 pence per kw normal rate and 10p per kw cheap night tarriff
  6. It was just a idea I’m no electrician or solar expert but I thought it might help with electrical costs for the immersion for hot water for little outlay
  7. No I was just going to have roughly 4 panels just for hot water and a bit of electricity I don’t have room for anymore
  8. What is grid tied ?????
  9. Air to air solely for heating the a2a heat pumps at the moment only do a 120ltr cylinder (not big enough ) I know bigger ones should be coming soon I’m now looking at adding possibly 4 solar panels (self install ) while the scaffolding is already in place and integrating them into the roof this should assist will the Mixergy cylinder 210 ltr solar x any thoughts the 4 panels are about £1600 the electrician can wire up while wiring the whole house

  11. The insulation is already in which air to air system do you have and how many units -is it a new build
  12. Just the Mixergy cylinder with immersion heaters
  13. With the latest building regs and saps you have to have a air test done and apparently it has to be really airtight in order to pass the test if it fails building control won’t sign off regards the cylinder because I’m heating it purerly on electric I wanted something that would use the cheapest nighttime tariff and then just top up during the day after the morning showers ,but only enough for what we use until the tariff drops lower at night again
  14. We are currently having our saps and overheat calculations done ( bit late I know ) so this should give us a better idea
