  1. Thank you for the replies John and Nod. For more context the house has three stories with the third story having two rooms - one room with ensuite. That's really interesting you mention it will still be MCS compliant if only doing the downstairs. This presumably means we would still be able to get the grant.!?
  2. Hi, I'm installing wet underfloor heating on the upper floors, but the floorboards will be exposed to the elements for approximately 40 days before the roof is installed. I need a weatherproof solution. I had planned to use grooved floorboards, but the weatherproofing requirement changes things. I'm considering either using aluminum spreader plates beneath weatherproof boards, or adding grooved chipboard on top of the weatherproof layer after the roof is complete. What solutions have others used in similar situations?
  3. If you are an electrician what do I need to provide you to provide and accurate accurate cost price for the works? I can mark up plans showing where lighting power and data will be but would a schedule also be required to cost from? How granular should the information be?
  4. Hi, We're planning to apply for the ASHP grant as we're eligible due to being a self-build project. I can't foresee any reason why we wouldn't, unless you can think of any reason? So it seems according the MCS we'll need to get an accredited assessor to assess each room and plan for emitters (UHF or radiators) throughout the house in the livable rooms. To move forward, is the best thing to send our plans to a heating specialist for quotes and system design?
  5. Hi All thank you for your responses, I really appreciate it guys. To update the post - the house is actually 3 stories with a study and bedroom on the top floor. Does this change anything above?
  6. Many thanks for the great points here. Totally understand about the wired vs. future wireless technologies. I wanted to make sure I used wired where possible (especially for higher bandwidth devices - TV - computers etc.) to free up the wireless bandwidth for wireless-only devices.
  7. I'm looking into the best way to heat the upstairs of my new-build, 2-storey house with heat pump. I'm interested in the pros and cons of radiators versus underfloor heating and would also appreciate any insights into the cost difference between the two. For context the the upper floors are wooden joists. I'm considering the impact of low water temperatures and flow rates on radiator sizing for my new build. I've heard that larger radiators might be necessary in this situation. However, since the house is well-insulated, with triple glazing, this would reduce the required radiator size. Do you think it's possible to achieve efficient heating with smaller radiators on the upper floor, especially if they're on a separate zone? If you've had any experience with this, I'd love to hear your thoughts!
  8. We're about to start digging the foundations for our new house, and I'm already thinking about the network cabling. I'm unsure when to finalise the cable routes and how to get cables to external walls for sockets. Should I plan the routes before the floor is poured, or can this be done later, perhaps after DPC level when the internal stud walls are going up? I'm particularly concerned about how to run cables to the solid external walls, as I'll need sockets there, not just on internal partition walls. Is it common practice to run cables through the ceiling void and then down to the socket locations on external walls?
