No, I was actually meaning battens What I had ripped out previous to this photo was 2x2's spanning an extreme length and I thought about replicating it with a few ceiling joists added to add extra support/fixings. But I'll ignore all of that and continue as your posted diagram states. Thanks for the info!

We were toying with the idea of a vaulted ceiling but have decided against it due to the work involved. So just a standard level ceiling is what we've decided on. All I've done is remove the lath and plaster and the existing battens which were all over the shop and very sparsely fixed. Regarding insulation I was considering using insulated plasterboard and earthwool above.

I would check that the valve is installed in the correct orientation. If the flow of water is going through the wrong way, more often than not the valve will "thud". There will be a directional arrow on the side of the valve.

Hi all, I'm currently renovating my bathroom in a property built in 1898. Having removed the ceiling and old ceiling battens I'm looking to install the new required timbers for the ceiling. There is only one truss within the bathroom area and another quite a distance just outside of the bathroom area. My plan is to counter batten but I'm struggling to find info on what the max span for 2x2's destined to hold the weight of plasterboard and plaster would be. I know I will have to fit new ceiling joists but if anyone could advise me on the max distance between them, that would great. TIA!

I'm slowly renovating my house built in 1898, one room at a time. I'd like to think I'm knowledgeable in my trade as a heating engineer and I'm gradually progressing with learning how to carry out other aspects of house renovation.
