Hi, Screed is down and dying out. I have wet UFH in 50mm of anhydrate screed. I plan to use engineered timber flooring. I’ve had the screed sanded to address laitence etc. The question I have is whether to lay underlay, or bond directly to the screed. I have been advised that underlay will impair the efficiency of the UFH? I’d appreciate your advice please? Thx

Hi, Can anyone recommend an inexpensive moisture meter which I can use to test the liquid screed floor so I know it's ok to lay the engineered timber floor? I have seen a Tilemaster hygrometer - but would be good to know if it's any good before buying? Any recommendations please? Is it t the sort of thing that you can hire? Thx

Hi, That's interesting - I hadn't really considered the heat transfer would be impaired by the underlay?

Hi, I’m having liquid screed poured next week. Build-up is: Block & beam floor 1200g DPM 150mm insulation 1200g DPM UFH 50mm liquid screed Any thoughts on drying time before it would be safe to lay underlay and an engineered timber floor? Is it worth running a dehumidifier for a few days? Any insight would be really helpful. Thanks, W

Thanks all - very helpful!

Hi, I’m installing wet UFH over a new block & beam concrete floor. I need some advice on: The best material to act as a membrane over the block & beam before I lay the insulation layer? The best membrane to lay over the UFH once clipped to the insulation before we pour the liquid screed. Best product to go over the screed (once laitance has been taken care of, before laying engineered wood floor. I’d really appreciate some advice and recommendations please? Thanks v m, W

Hi, Id like some advice on pipe lagging for the rad circuit with a heat pump. Just had all new pipe work including a 28mm rad circuit. House is very well insulated. My question is what is the best / most sensible lagging approach for the rad circuit to minimise heat loss and protect against issues? I was thinking of using 13mm self sealing lagging and then wrapping with rock wool? Grateful for any ideas / thoughts please? Thanks!

BotusBuild! Thanks for the recommendation. I've been in contact with them and they have been great so far - very helpful and the quote is good too! I was impressed with the information which they send over with the quote too - really informative and gives me faith. Thanks for the recommendation.

What I was getting at is whether a liquid screed will warm more quickly, hold heat better etc?

HI all, I have a reasonably large area to screed over UFH. The pricing for liquid screed seems to be pretty good - only a few hundred more than concrete. I like this as an idea, especially if I don't have to do it, it's more thermally efficient for UFH and it dries and is walkable faster than concrete. It all seems great - but is there anything that I need to be aware of before I commit? Does anyone have any recommendations for a supplier in the South West - I'm in Porlock, Somerset. Thanks for your help, Sean

Hi, Any advice on the best products to provide UV protection for thermo wood cladding? I’m looking for a brushable clear UV coating that will help to slow the weathering / greying of my cladding. Has anyone got any personal use recommendations? t Thanks v m, W

Hi, I’m in the latter stage of finishing a new roof. I could use some advice on insulation and cavity size. I am able to get 150mm of insulation between the rafters and then plaster board, leaving a 25mm air cavity. My questions are: Will this be ok from a building regs point of view? Will it be sufficiently thermally effective? Any thoughts please? Thanks v m,

Hi, I'm doing a major refurb and switching to an ASHP. I've insulated the walls to within an inch of their lives but now just getting the new roof felt & battened. I need to insulate the crawl spaces in the loft area and now is the time where I have the best access. I have removed all the old fibreglass insulation and want to replace with something that is thermally efficient and won't cause me to itch as much as the fibre glass. What would people recommend that is efficient and easy to install. What depth of insulation should I be aiming for in the loft spaces? Any help much appreciated. Thanks, W

Electric underfloor - over existing timber board floor?
Walshie replied to Walshie's topic in Underfloor Heating
Hi, Thanks for the suggestion but as the areas are a series of small-ish spaces I might not get the heat output that will be needed? Appreciate that I don't need the utility room etc to be roasting but think a series of short runs might not be terribly effective? Thx W -
Electric underfloor - over existing timber board floor?
Walshie posted a topic in Underfloor Heating
Hi all, I am doing a major refurb and had planned to use wet underfloor heating to the new build kitchen / sitting / dining area. I've factored in floor height to accommodate this. On reflection, I think it would be great to extend the underfloor to the adjacent utility, bathroom and hall areas. The problem is that this area is existing and is a timber board floor. I'm reluctant to have to make major alterations to the floor height in this area - but it would be great to avoid using radiators. I understand there are mesh type / thin profile electric underfloor systems - which would minimise the extra work and hassle. My questions are: Is electric underfloor reasonably economical to run (we'll have solar and battery etc) These areas will need background warmth only. Are the mesh / thin profile systems an option for this type of application? Is the existing floor board floor a problem - what would I need to do to this to make the approach effective? I'd really appreciate some help with this - really outside my comfort zone. Thanks, Sean
