  1. Nice one, thanks both for confirming. The old water feed to the house that I've T'd off is a black alkathene pipe, just under 22mm OD and about 14mm ID, which I think makes it a half inch class D pipe. Any ideas for a suitable insert for using a compression fitting to get it to the 25mm MDPE? I was hoping Screwfix's 20mm pipe liners might do it but no joy... Been using one of these (https://www.screwfix.com/p/floplast-492113-mdpe-reducing-coupler-25mm-x-20mm/14632?ref=SFAppShare) to try and get from the alkathene to 25mm MDPE, which I thought worked but there is a tiny leak, hoping that a suitable pipe insert on the alkathene will sort that
  2. Been a bit slower with the plumbing than I'd like but better late than never... I'd like to get your thoughts on my plumbing plan below for the reno (accidentally missed off the outside tap that tees of the 25mm MDPE): Does this seems like a reasonable plan for the cold and DHW feeds? Is it worth running 22mm hot to the bathroom for the bath/over bath shower? I think I've made a bit of an error with the ensuite (far left on diagram), I've fitted this already but realised I probably should have ran a separate feed for the electric shower, hoping it doesn't affect the pressure too much. Anything I should be thinking about with double check vales/pressure reducing valves etc? Or any recommendations for sources I can read up on this kind of stuff? There's no central heating in the house, but we've got access to an oil combi that we are planning on installing in the next month or so. I was thinking of a setup along the lines of that shown below for the heating (I've added approx pipe run length from the boiler) Running 22mm until I get to the rough area, and then branching to 15mm for the rads. I've read that you should only have 3 rads coming off a 22mm pipe, so I may be pushing it a bit here? Does anyone have any experience of running UFH with a combi boiler, anything to consider with this? Any critique/thoughts would be greatly appreciated! Cheers
  3. Amazing, thanks all for the speedy feedback. Saves me having to rip up the slates we put on in the summer for an SVP! Great point about using the side boss on the T - I'll let you know how I get on
  4. My parents are in the planning stage of a self build in County Down and they are looking to go down the SIPs build route. I was wondering if any of you have any recommendations for SIPs suppliers in Northern Ireland or Ireland that they should get speaking to? Or if there are any they should avoid? They're looking at both getting a supplier to get it to wind and watertight and the parents do the rest or to just have the panels supplied and the parents do the lot.
  5. Hello! About to start plumbing the ensuite in the extension and I'd like to get your thoughts on my current plan. Haven't done much of this before, so I wouldn't be surprised if I'm going to try and do something wrong or if there is a better/simpler way of doing it. Apologies for the rough sketch but hopefully shows the gist of it. Ensuite with toilet, basin and shower. I'm thinking of running the basin to the toilet in 32mm and then toilet runs 110mm pipe between the joists to the front elevation of the house before dropping to the rest bend. Was going to use some builders band to support the pipe as it runs between the joists. Bits I'm unsure about are: - Is the T joint for the 'horizontal' 110mm to the vertical okay? Or is this too sharp? - My current plan is to run the shower waste into the 110 pipe using a solvent weld boss using 40mm pipe. Is this okay to do into a horizontal pipe? Not really sure how else I could do it - Can I use an AAV in the wardrobe rather than running a vent pipe through the roof? The architect had put down a vent pipe, but I was hoping I could maybe get away with an AAV. There is already an SVP in the bathroom in the house (the bathroom joins the main line between the house and the septic tank further 'upstream' - dont know if that makes a difference), so it is vented somewhere - Is there a better way of supporting the 110mm pipe? What do you think? Anything you'd change/avoid? Cheers
  6. Thanks for the warm welcome! It's been hard going at times over the last 18 months but starting to see the rewards of our efforts now. There's no central heating in the house, so I've got a lot of reading to do and probably a lot of questions whilst I get my head around it!
  7. Hello! We're completing a renovation and extension of an 18th century cottage in the Wye Valley, and after many Google searches taking me to this forum I thought it was about time I signed up! My girlfriend and I are managing the project and doing as much of the building and labouring as we can, with a lot of help from family and friends along the way - my Dad is a joiner and her Dad is a retired plasterer/builder. Before this house we renovated and extended a miner's terrace in South Bristol, which gave us maybe a bit too much confidence for extending and renovating a stone cottage requiring some serious groundworks and retaining walls. The extension is finally wind and watertight and we're currently doing the insulation and UFH ready for the screed. Not sure if it is allowed or not but we have an Instagram account (search Cadora Chronicles) we are using as a blog and possibly to remind ourselves of how hard it was if we start looking at other projects/plots in the future! Some taster images of the build so far below! Looking forward to getting advice from you all as we progress! The start Garage demolished and retaining walls in Majority of the externals complete! This was a couple of months ago pre glazing
