  1. She looks very prim, double barrel name and about 12 years of age 😑 Must be just following the text book
  2. Would love to see some pics, Weve got some lovely views and looking for ideas to enjoy them
  3. We have lowered the ridge height to what they want, the reason, only reason is to retain its original character, Have you seen its character, you couldnt make it up😂😂
  4. Oh cracking, i like this idea 😊 Although I thought they might say it is a gable, def better than what I thought as a gable and less onward maintenance and loss of heat.
  5. All new to this, and already frustrated. Got our dream plot with the ugliest broken down house on it and i have submitted a design which is different to the 1970s house here. The Hamlet is not particularly thought out planning wise and as the village dates back to domesday I thought it would be nice to insert an appropriately proportioned 17century farmhouse design. Well, they want a dormer and I dont want one as its not in keeping with the farmhouse of 17 century, apart from losing floor space and the blooming maintenance, that together with there is not one dormer in the road. What on earth?? Architect says we will have to give them one. Well thats like hanging a chandelier in a toilet cubicle, it just isnt right. Can they insist, it seems mean given this house is falling down and trust me its ugly and 70s and yet they seem to want another eyes sore to replace the already hated house in the hamlet by the natives. Any tips how I can stop this silliness? TIA FF
  6. We had a pre app meeting today online and they like all the research and presentation of our modest farmhouse style plan. The only request was could we possibly drop the roof line. Is this a deal breaker, I mean the village has a smattering of houses mainly 1970s 2 storey boxes and rendered bungalows. Its a shame to lose the integrity of the farmhouse aesthetic when there really isnt anything we look onto front or back just fields. Anyone have similar conversation and if so how did you get around them to allow you to build what you wished. TIA FF
  7. You are not wrong Johnny, Admiral my current insurer actually rang me after i secured a policy online offering all their criteria and no fibs and it sent me a notification saying it hasnt taken a payment and someone will ring me to ask questions. A lady called me and then checked with her manager twice whether they would take the risk, to which the answer was no!!!!! The following day I saw they took my money from my account and its taken me three days to actually talk to someone about it. Their settings are all down to a policy number to get you access, but of course i didnt have one. Luckily i hung on to the reference number they flashed on the screen when they said they didnt take my premium, i believe if i hadnt got that they would not of even admitted they took my money. Funny thing is when asking for my money back the assistant there was bemused that it was refused too and even asked me if i wanted to go ahead with it. Well I will never get those two days of my life back chasing that through and politely declined.
  8. Managed to find some cover. For a 3 bed detached home these three Companies have quoted me for Buildings and Contents Orwell Insurance via Lloyds £350 = 01473 292805 Amica Insurance via Magenta £414.32 = 01782 498814 Fresh Insurance via Castle £345.26 = 01527 593800 These policy quotes are for standard cover without accidental damage cover. Hope this helps others looking. All the best FF
  9. Chan, are you able to suggest any insurers that might help in this case. Ive always had insurance, never defaulted, havent had a claim in God knows how many years and the subsidence was 25 years ago with remedial works done and the tree removed. Its insane as the house is sound so much so that even the structural surveyor couldnt see much had happened.
  10. Thanks Marvin, Do you happen to remember any of the names of the insurers, Ive done a lot of ringing and online searching without much luck. We are about to complete on the purchase and im freaking out about not having insurance for anything at all
  11. The discrimination is appalling. Ive always used insurance and I cant even remember when I claimed on it, has to be over 20 years. I will be very picky in return when my new home is built, this elephant never forgets, they wont get my money again
  12. I agree, Ive no idea why my contents is an issue in a house thats perfectly good to live in. Everything works and locks. Yes they all ask now has there been any previous issues, stating subsidence, flooding etc. In fact the last insurer actually asked if these issues had happened in the last 10 years to which I replied no, it was nearly 20 years ago!!
  13. Im not asking for buildings insurance as the intention is to get planning and rebuild a new home in its place. The house is sound and secure, so whats the deal with trying to get cover for my contents? Anyone have any similar issues and how to deal with this nonsense😫
  14. Ive had a good read of some of the issues of delays and high costs involved in moving poles, or cables. Has anyone had any positive outcomes with little delay and at reasonable expense. This Rooky self builder is having second thoughts about a perfectly placed plot which because of its perfection wasnt cheap. Now I know because of possible soil issues caused by historical trees that we maybe in for some robust foundations which will sting, but to now find the woman who lived in the rikkety house had signed a deal with the devil for a few quid to have a pole in the garden and comes with an easement. I can live with the pole, its the line feeding just one neighbour (who has a pole of her own at the front of her property btw) that runs diagonally across the front garden. NPower regs needs to be 5 M away from buildings, construction. Its crushed the idea of what we would really want as the budget is tight and reading the nightmares of costs and timescales is worrying. If anyone has had good experiences, please share your tricks of the trade for speed and savings. TIA
