  1. Thanks. I’d read about the biggest problem area being the sole plate junction. And seen some references to Marmox blocks (?) as a possible solution. But ideas outlined above, and reassurance that, well built and well maintained, SIPs should last just as well as other methods of construction gives me confidence.
  2. So, there’s lots out there about pros and cons of SIPs but I’m conscious they’ve only really been around for about 60-70 years. (The biggest risk seems to be water ingress - but that would be the same for timber frame, right…?) So, if well built and well maintained, how long will a SIPs house last? The only figure I’ve seen is 60 years. But that is conveniently around the same length of time as their existence!! Any informed views out there? Many thanks.
  3. Hi - I’ve been lurking on these forums on and off over the past 4 years and thought it was high time to participate fully! There is such a lot of useful knowledge and expertise here, which has certainly helped my understanding of the challenges facing self-builders. Thank you. We are at the very early stages of trying to make our home more sustainable (among many other goals). So probably more on the renovation side rather than build. Although, we are also exploring the option of knocking down and rebuilding. Which would be very exciting. I look forward to learning even more in 2023 and hope to see the project take off. Best wishes to all for 2023 and good luck with all your projects: may the weather play ball and the costs be easily tracked!!
