  1. My Octopus Go tariff ends in about a months time.... then it escalates upto crazy prices.....
  2. I am on octopus Go.... currently paying 5p per kwh at night and 14p per kwh during the day. My understanding is I will also be able to charge the battery at night and use that power to power the house during the day. That is with a hybrid inverter.
  3. Have a look at the SPF5000. There is a connection from the grid to the inverter, once the batteries and solar are depleted the grid takes over on the 2nd CU. In regards to transfer time I believe it is instant, shouldnt see any lights flicker. This is not a mechanical transfer switch that needs manually switching.
  4. What are the tax advantages for new build ? Zero rated vat ? Does that apply to a knock down and replace ?
  5. Ok, I have been looking at Solar, battery storage and inverters for a long time, Thinking of making a start in purchasing some items.... what would you all recommend ? I will install this myself (I am competent - I already do alot of electrical). I dont think it is worth going for a grid tied inverter, the feed in/SEG payments are not worth it. I want this to be completely independent from the main grid consumer unit. For e.g. I will have a seperate Consumer Unit which is fed from the solar inverter and will move certain circuits off the grid CU to the solar CU. The thing i liked about the Growatt SPF5000 is the bypass, ie when the solar and battery are depleted it will switch to grid and power the 2nd CU. Anyway, still looking at options.... should I be looking at Micro Inverters, and suggestions as to Panels/Inverters .. Initial budget is approx £2000 and looking for something scaleable so can be added to in the future. Welcome any suggestions/comments
  6. Hi, Just wondering what peoples views are on using a timber frame supplier vs building the frame myself in regards to costs ? I am yet to run the costs on this, but imagine I would be able to frame a 4 bed house more cost effectively than using a timber framed supplier to fabricate the wall sections. Has any hands on self builder run the sums on this ?
  7. Hi, Just wondering what everyone's experience is of placing a static caravan on a building plot ? Was it difficult to get permission from the council ? I am debating starting a new build in the new year and would like to live on site for both convenience and security. Thanks
  8. Yeah, I would be basing my offer on the 1/3, 1/3, 1/3 rule. However, i might have to alter that !
  9. What would be a completed value of a property that size ? I see plots listed on plot browser that start at around £700k then the get reduced and the reduced again.... Then they are looking for oieo £350k
  10. Hi and thanks.... What would you suggest as a suitable budget for the plot itself ?
  11. Hi, My name is Richard. I am looking for a plot to build for my family (wife and 3 kids) I have a lot of experience in general construction, plumbing & electrics etc, so will be doing a lot of the work myself and bringing in trades where required. I am looking for a plot on the outskirts of London (outside m25), somewhere quiet with at least 0.6 or an acre of land. Looking to build a 4 bed timber framed house, ultra insulated & air tight (MVHR to ventilate). Anyway, Hello to all ! =D Richard
