  1. I have done a search and couldn't find anything, so based on the premise that no question is a stupid one!!! We're getting ready to put the floor in our new extension, and building control have said it needs 100mm PIR under the floor slab, I just wondered if we can use polystyrene as an alternative or would we need to put thicker polystyrene boards in to meet the insulation requirement? I'm guessing its not a straight alternative as everyone would use it based on cost but I can't find a definitive answer, TIA
  2. Hi We are looking at building a side and rear two storey extension and I would like to use ICF for the wall construction, it looks a good self-build option, uses minimal skilled labour and is relatively quick to construct, my first question is how would I tie in the ICF blocks to the original brick and block walls? I was thinking of using rebar secured into holes drilled into the brickwork, interested to know what others have done.
  3. Hi, I’m new to the group, based in the midlands and have joined to discuss, gleam information and post the results on a self-build extension to a house we’ve just inherited that we’re hoping to build using an insulated slab foundation, ICF for the main structure and SIPS for the roof, although some of the ICF system providers also supply insulated roofing panels, so we’ll see how the design, and subsequent build goes!!
