  1. The floors concrete on the downstairs, think they call it Bison. Plan to go round under cabinets etc and seal any old holes left from running pipes or wires previously. It may be newer than the '40s though. Just had a Google, they are known as Coal Board houses and the Coal Board started building houses in 1952 so it must be from the '50s. Due to them being coal board, there's also 3 fires in the house. 1 now has a Multifuel burner in it and the other 2 are blocked off but vented. JohnMo, we've blackout curtains in most rooms, and roller blinds, but I'm going to install thermal blinds that clip into the rubber around the glass of windows and our patio doors. Anything I think will help really.
  2. Probably built in the '40s, Brick with cavity and rendered. Loft was insulated a while back, but I'm going to top that up. Got the cavity wall done earlier this year in preparation for the ASHP. It'll be replacing a kerosene system and we're moving 2 radiators but none will be under windows. Just thinking about the radiators, they are pretty central. None on an external wall either, if that makes any odds.
  3. We're going with a complete new central heating system with new pipework and radiators.
  4. Found the forum today whilst researching ASHP's, thought I'd join. Bit late, it's going in Tuesday/Wednesday next week, with solar and battery storage by end of October. Probably a composite front door as well. Then it's a top to bottom renovation/decoration including other small ways to make the place more energy efficient.
