  1. I finally got a replacement tank which you can see below. It has quite a few threaded holes that I won't use that will need sealing (their thread sizes shown in the diagram below). It also came with a thermometer that has to be installed in the small hole T. I have a few questions I hope someone can help with. Ideally, if there are help guides or videos on the web I can be pointed to (I've googled but clearly I'm not using the right terms as I haven't found anything useful). What's the best way to seal the threaded holes I won't use? Should I use tapered or parallel plugs with O rings (if with O rings, are there any particular types I should get)? And is brass or nickel plated best? How do I fit the thermometer? It goes in the hole T very loosely so some fitting must be needed for it. I intend to use flexible hoses so I can use the original tank's connections. I presume this won't be an issue. Many thanks for any advice.
  2. If anyone is interested, I've started a substack where I'll occasionally post about my mishaps in home automation.
  3. No, I AM replacing the cylinder. There is far too much corrosion around the where the flange is screwed into the tank. I wouldn't be able to replace the flange with any confidence it wouldn't leak. I'm replacing like with like as I don't want to change the plumbing (bloody expensive in Austria).
  4. This is a link to the flange the tank manufacturer also supplies. The reason I want to try and source the immersion heater and flange separately, ideally in the UK, is because a) I have time (thanks to "supply chain problems" it won't be delivered before March next year and b), and more importantly, is that this is where the corrosion has occurred. I want to try and get more corrosion proof items if possible. Hope this makes sense
  5. I have to replace a badly corroded water tank in Austria. The tank is the same as this one: The immersion heater goes where the circular section is towards the bottom using a flange with 8 screws. Googling German websites this seems to be a standard setup although not something I've seen before. A typical immersion heater would be like this one here https://www.heiz24.de/Tuerk-amp-Hillinger-electric-heating-rod-EHS-300KW-400V-G114installation-length-260mm-new#anker. Are such immersion heaters and flanges available in the UK (I'm not finding them when I search)? If so, can you post a link please. Many thanks for any help.
  6. Hello all. I'm a fairly keen DIYer and I have a house in Austria. They do things a bit differently there so I'll probably be asking for help on here now and then! I've gotten into home automation quite a bit in recent years. I monitor and control my house using Home Assistant on a Raspberry Pi (I can control lights, heating - including coming on/going off when we leave/return to the house - and see what's happening whenever I want.) Treat me gently!
