  1. Thanks, i'll ask them hopefully spending some time documenting my calculations in a clear enough way will do... I can only imagine how much the professionals would charge for the design 😅 which of course is fair enough... if I had the spare money 🤣 Thank you, It's all good I really appreciate the input! Here's a better idea of the design with the windows above the door. I want a shelf extended from the window sill with houseplants on it, the area to the LHS of the room with the arched window extends out from where our kitchen currently is (a whole 2m wide), and will continue as a kitchen (2m wide) and the remainder of the room extends out from where our current living room is. so i guess the thinking with the windows is to accentuate the different areas by having 2 distinct styles. Maybe I am getting a little trigger happy with the designing though... I havent quite worked this bit out just yet but will do very soon. Sky lights would be awesome though!!!! I have attached a new photo of the kind of idea I had with the windows right up to the ceiling... Here's also a sketch on paper of the left hand side of the room being a kitchen area and then the rest being general hang out quaters...
  2. This is a timber frame, but no timber frame specialist involved, I did the sketch myself. I am on a very low budget and have been and will continue to watch as many youtube videos and read as much as possible to learn. Would you say I really should get specialists involved? I wont be having an external masonry skin, just some sort of cladding. The sketch does show a stud wall and OSB sheathing, there is also a lintel/door header which is above the door, but details of the lintel i have yet to finalise (was planning on more in depth research before this part).
  3. I've got 670mm space between the top of the door header and the bottom of the walls top plate... Do you think i'd be pushing it with a 500mm tall window? or should i go for a smaller window? i was hoping 500mm window because they seem to be the smallest size that actually open! cheers.
  4. Thanks for your reply, it's the face of an extension i am planning to build, so will be bearing the weight of sloping roof... does this count as load bearing?
  5. Hi! I would like to fit a row of upvc windows above the door as seen in the photo, would this be something i could do, and if so, any pointers as to what i should be looking out for in terms of securing it etc. passing building regs etc. Thanks
  6. Hi all, I am at the preliminary stages of planning for a small 6x3m extension to the back of our house. We're a 1 bed almost masonette style property. I am hoping to use ground screws as the foundation. I am a keen diyer and had experience as a labourer in a few different trades, and also done a fair bit of furniture joinery... but other than this, a steep learning curve is ahead of me! So I am sure I will have plenty of questions which is why i signed up to this forum! Thanks everyone!!
