3 ph v single

just been quoted 2K for a 3phase supply, 1.2K for single.  This is with us digging the trench.  The 3 phase may be required as we will be using ASHP, plus hot tub and electric cooking, plus its on a 1 acre site so lots of outside lighting.  We dont intend to actually power anything from 3phase although maybe we should look at it.  Anyhow, given the low price difference any recomendations on what we should go for?

For £800 extra i would go for £ phase

Yes I would choose 3 phase for that modest extra.

 

If ever you get into hobbies that involve machining, 3 phase machines are often available cheaper than single phase.

Just remember that a lot of the cheap tariffs aren’t available on 3 phase so you may get stuck on a poor power deal. 

 

Also worth looking at the cost of a pair of meters and connections in side by side cabinets. Run the house loads from one, use the other to do garage, garden, lights etc.

I think anyone considering major PV in the future sometime , should go 3phase if installing a new supply .

one could see that all houses may start to be fitted with 3 phase if we really get serious about home generation

correct -and it does give the possibility for the future if fitting  3 phase supply cable  

my garage has 3 phase supply ,but when i split it into  3 units  one of them just has a single phase meter as its only a showroom +offices

What you are planning to run no need for 3 phase but for the small extra I would put it in.
