Yes. Though bright sunshine keeps them in too, so that accounted for about 3 of those days. But the wind last year really was the problem - why I was so frustrated to begin with.

A friend of mine, who was a keen walker, used to reckon you could assess the surface wind speed from the height at which the midges were flying AGL.

I got myself some 2 section, extension/A frame type ladders. Delivered in the AM and they had paid for themselves by dinner time!
