I use Bosch Multi Construction bits

Pack of 4 will do pretty much anything. Screwfix have them on offer regularly.

+1. Spend a bit more money and get the version of these goes in the impact driver.

Well I've finally had enough of forcing blunt drill bits through wood / metal.  I've not got a grinding wheel & I've never used one to sharpen a drill bit so I'm tempted with one of those all in one jobs like

Does anyone have any experience of these?

Cheers.

It depends how much your drill bits cost. Even if you have a nice set of hss g bits I still wouldn’t be spending £150 on a sharpener. £50 maybe as a new set will cost you double that,

the multi bits are ok at most tasks but imho they’re  not very good at any of them.

I've had set of these for quite awhile and used them to drill holes in farm gate hinges (galvanised steel). Found them ok.

Yesterday I found them on Amazon for just £15 and have reordered. Should be here Monday.

I quite like the Bosch multi construction bits. We deliberately did "the test" at work on a lump of timber, paving slab then steel plate. Coped admirably tbh though not so sure once they lose their edge. Dead handy to have one set in the leccy bag, another in the plumbing tote etc.

Tbh you only need one drill for steel, a 6mm Starrett HsCo pilot drill. It'll drill most steel straight off with no messing.

No good if you want a hole smaller than 6mm! Good in wood but useless in brick, stone etc! :)

I don’t disagree that they’re useful. Iv got quite a few of them about. But they’re not as good as the real thing at any task.

A bit like the Evolution chop saws! Great for sheds & stud walls but no good for fine woodworking or through housings.

  • 6 months later...

Anyone had problems with Muticonstruction losing their tip inserts? Dunno whether the set I got are (very good) knockoffs, or if we're doing something wrong...

Drilling clay roof tiles. Tip doesn't appear to be losing it's edge but randomly after maybe twenty holes- individual, with cooldown between- the bit goes smoking hot and melts the braze holding the insert in.

Thoughts? The first one, we reckoned the impact gun was too high rpms so switched to a combi and it's happened to another two.
