carpet or hardwood floors?

Recommended Posts

Carpet, so soft but hardwood so classy. I really don't care. Now living in carpet
but I favor cleaning hardwood.

Carpet if it's fine or else, nasty
why don't people say "wood floors" instead of "hardwood floors"?
Thanks

Carpet is nice when it's new but very quickly flattens and looks poor. Unless you go for Axminster (do they still exist?) or similar. Only viable imho in low trafic areas like bedrooms.

No one tends to say hardwood floors TBH as most people with UFH have to use engineered wood. Wood floors are also zero rated for vat on a new build too whereas carpet is not.

I am tempted by carpet for its acoustic properties, sound dampening. I tend not to like the echos from hard floors (my hearing is not the best).

Tiles are zero rated as well, have I got that right?

Ha, didn’t know that about VAT and tiles and wood flooring (note to self to find receipts). We have good quality carpet upstairs (no shoes policy) and vinyl tIles in bathrooms. Downstairs is hardwood flooring in lounge and porcelain tiles elsewhere (country living with dogs).
