Only posting photos as I know jack, so not sure what to call things. 'Those green things' wouldn't mean much I guess without a visual so just easier to send photos :)

Where's your thread @Onoff. Hope it isn't a massive tale of woe like mine ;)

You got enough problems without reading my saga! But if you really want to read about how long I'm taking on ONE ROOM then feel free:

Started it on 13 Mar 2015 on the old forum!

Terry had 3 Raspberry Pi's. Not 100% sure what he was using them for, but I gave them away, along with boxes and boxes of gaming stuff, tablets etc. The big monster simulator thing is stuck in the garage tho. And I still have his tricopter drone things in a box somewhere as no one wanted those. Everyone wanted the quad drones.

eBay the stuff and put towards sorting this.

This and evidence above demonstrates that he and you are 'our kind of people' you must miss him as I am sure we would, had we ever got to know him. Although in a very real sense we are getting to know him through his approach to heating systems and what might be called 'boys toys'.

Not sure how old it is, but iirc the new prices for those simulators were 5 figures a couple of times over, so prove it works, auction it, and it may pay for a lot of heating repairs... and perhaps a holiday.

I have no idea how to get it working unfortunately. Need someone to sort it on a commission I guess. It's not the sort of thing you can just send tho, as it's massive! He bought it sight unseen off a company who had used it for demos as he was sure he could get it working.

Lol, he spent his time on the AV forums I think. Plotting how to spend money ;)

He was also into Kickstarter. Things he’d backed arrived for months after he died. I never bloody knew what would turn up next! He said ‘sell it all off when I’m gone’ but that’s not as easy as it sounds and during that time I didn’t want to be bothered with stuff like that anyway.

He wanted to build an off road Segway so crap for that is in the garage too. Needs a nuclear bomb under it ;)

I think Column 117.3 is the panel temp. Could easily be so if it's sunny and not circulating fluid. I would just turn it off. It needs fixing with tools now :)

Thanks! Switched it off!

@JSHarris. Would the glycol / other turn to jelly? I've not seen that before. There is a top up point which shows the ST system can be repressuirsied with ease, just needs the hozelock pressured pump up bottle and some more so,union made up and it may come back to life by itself.

I can't remember how these panels get bled of air. Do they usually have automatic air vents at the top of the solar collectors or is it a manual job?

Shouldn't do, unless the system has been boiling for a long time and has vented off all the steam.  Even then it should flush clean OK.  AAVs are normal, as is a PRV to allow steam to blow off if they boil.  Shouldn't happen normally, as they reach stagnation temperature and just sit there, assuming the controller is working.

That 117.3 panel temp...

If you had a failure or lack of check valve could the gas/electric derived heat in the system just be radiating from the ST panels?

Typical ST diagrams I think. Shows an AAV:

I think I'd have to go some to get up to your post count @Onoff but your thread makes me feel better now given how long it's taken for one room ;):). Mind you, mine is just a heating system :$

@newhome

Get the stuff assessed and get it turned into heating dollars. The stuff will be of value to those who want it, and tbh on eBay you could sell a bucket of piss in minutes. Do you have paperwork for the simulator?

I have the manual.

‘Get the stuff assessed’. If anyone fancies it feel free! It’s 340kg so not something I can move. I told my brother he could come and get it for my nephews but given a year has passed since then I guess he doesn’t want it.

Think you're being a bit hasty. Try and sell it. I HATE games but that is a simulator and a good one at that. Check this video out:

$37500.00 in 2007. That's a lot of plumbers time to sort you out!

I agree, definitely try to sell it, or if you cannot be bothered, then maybe someone here who lives nearby may offer to look at it, take some photos and list it for you.  I'm certain it should fetch a decent price - might even pay for the work needed on the heating system.

If you look at the pic of the panels on the roof there is a solar rated (silver) bottle air vent there to help bleed the system. IMO these are a failure point (even the solar rated ones) as during stagnation the temps can exceed what they are rated to anyway. It's usual to bleed the air during commissioning using a pump to push the fluid into and around the circuit and back out again into a vessel like a bucket to get the air out. Some dissolved air can appear but over time but its not usually enough to bother about.

Those videos look like hell on earth to me ;). The racket is as bad as living through F1 on the tele. It's a specialist thing so you will get a lot of crazies bidding I think and asking questions that I won't have a clue how to answer. Needs someone to set it up and sell it on my behalf I guess. Assume it will work ok in the UK? Terry bought it from this company http://gteye.com.au/who-is-gteye and imported it from Australia, but they bought the system new from the company in the US I believe. Mind you this has jack to do with heating other than providing potential dosh for fixing it!

If the simulator isn't in the way then don't be too hasty to get rid. Maybe start another thread. There's a massive nerd herd on here who will love to try and advise even to the extent I'm sure of maybe video chats / confrences for some remote diagnostics.

Starting with "What mains plug is on it?" :)

I’ve got this I think. It’s sitting next to the solar bottles.

Seems the system needs a periodic flush. A bit about it here:

https://www.thegreenlivingforum.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=105560

Are you up for having a go if someone here can advise how?

Yeah (as long as I don't have to go anywhere near the roof!) but not sure if it's worth it if the heat isn't actually making its way into the TS?
