Pocster Posted January 25 Posted January 25 To avoid the build I create a new ‘fun’ project …. The post box is a standalone unit about 6m from the house . Want to detect when it’s opened presumably by postie to delivery parcel . It does have a letter slot - but I could block that up . First thought was a Shelly / zigbee battery door sensor . Works sometimes . Range is the issue … Also no mains power at the postbox . So ! , maybe a Shelly relay mains powered but it would need mains which is around 20m away and then long cable to some reed sensor type magnetic switch in the postbox . Seems like a lot of work to work out if a letters been posted ! A good / bad plan ? ; other suggestions??
Gone West Posted January 25 Posted January 25 Would it be possible to have a wireless camera looking at the post box which would notify you?
SteamyTea Posted January 25 Posted January 25 At 6m away, just run a bit of bell wire to a simple sensor.

Onoff Posted January 25 Posted January 25 This: https://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/QUDSW.html Quinetic receiver with an added latching relay, light stays on until you switch it off. 1

Not a musk nazi device is it ? 😆 Because ze Germans at least realise that once the Chinese control our power infrastructure they're only a flick of the switch away from The Great Over Voltage Disaster where all their cheap mains powered wall warts etc catch fire at once...everywhere. It'll be Dresden, Cologne all over again!
Onoff Posted January 25 Posted January 25 (edited) Postman delivers your prescription enlargement cream, / pump, opens the box triggering the Quinetic door switch Door switch signals the receiver. Receiver brings the relay in. Far right set of normally open contacts hold the relay on and other set bring a lamp on. Lamp stays on until you hit the cancel button. Or something like that... Just a Quinetic door switch. Doesn't need batteries. Works by magic.....or maybe the charge generated by a piezo electric crystal or something.....

Russdl Posted January 25 Posted January 25 @Onoff that is a genius suggestion. I’m now trying to find something around here that I need a Quinetic door switch for. @Pocster have you had a look at the videos on the product page in the link.
Bramco Posted January 25 Posted January 25 You need entangled bits.... Go quantum - few bits in the postbox entangled with some in the house. And hey presto the latest in postbox sensors. Powering the entangled bits on the street might be an issue but in the house must be a breeze...

Concept sounds good …. reviews seem not good . A battery I change once a year or less is fine . My problem is WiFi and zigbee at this point is poor / shite Edited January 25 by Pocster

Onoff Posted January 25 Posted January 25 When I make our new post box I'm going to mount a blink camera on the outside, looking in*. Will be in direct line of sight to the router. Anything comes through the post box I'll get an alert on my phone. * CHOON!
Adrian Walker Posted January 26 Posted January 26 A camera is a better solution and I used a Wireless Logic circle.
Pocster Posted January 26 Author Posted January 26 (edited) Lora !!!!!! Yolink New toys ordered ! 1/4 Mile range …. 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🤔 Edited January 26 by Pocster
Pocster Posted January 26 Author Posted January 26 I was reading about someone that bought a Lora based sensor and didn’t know they needed the hub . Been working by magic apparently for years ; not on their WiFi or Bluetooth or anything else . Recently found out it had connected to a Lora hub 5 streets away 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Pocster Posted January 26 Author Posted January 26 Hmmmmmm to find a relay resorts to AliExpress - always a flip a coin and hope ; this maybe ? Are all Lora devices compatible with all hubs ??
Pocster Posted January 26 Author Posted January 26 Or this ??? I want to toggle 240v on each relay https://hobbycomponents.com/lora/1190-longreach-lora-4-channel-digital-tx
