Appliance socket and isolation location

Thinking of fridges and washing machines here, non built in ones. Is it ok to just put a socket on the wall behind them or should I have an isolation switch in a more accessible place, eg above a near by worktop and that isolate the socket? Thanks.

Do whatever you want really as the consumer unit will have a means of isolation via the big red switch

lots of people do isolation above, some collate isolators in a grid, some don’t bother and some fit surface boxes in adjacent units.

just think of the environment/ potential water ingress etc.

I was told once that some repair engineers won’t work on appliances if they cannot isolate them before starting work, not sure if it’s true, when I used to fit kitchens I preferred to put a socket in the adjacent cupboard ?
