Even minimal shading can be bad..

Most people and many retailers/installers do not appreciate how PV performance can be effected.

I hate the look of added-on PV panels so often notice how badly some of them are. Recently saw panels on a roof that was entirely shaded by a very big tree.

Just imagine paying a man to fit, before FiT, some panels to your nice south facing roof, then having an Architect move in next door.  An Architect that wants to win an award, wins it, then moves out.

How do you get planning permission for that?

The redevelopment of the buildings is horrible. Particularly the earlier one.

That's the trouble with property it's all about greed.

The planning system penalising those people who view their house as their home and compared to those who view their home as a house.

If I had a magic wand I would reform principal residence relief to taper for CGT purposes.

TBF just a few doors further up you have this.

And presumably all those tiered balconies are supposed to be evoking some kind of nautical / sailing club vernacular.

But still, not at all to my taste in a terrace like that.

There is.  It has the sun motif between the deco style piers.

Na I reckon the whole front wall goes up and down like on Tracey Island or Wallace and Grommet.
