MBC timber frame and cedar cladding closing the gap

Hi Silage

Away on holiday at the moment but I just googled board on board cladding to get inspiration.

Also found a few good websites - here are a couple of them, but remember there being another good one about installation advice, if I find it I'll post it.  If you have any specific questions post them and tag me and I'll reply when I can

Also have you seen the other pictures of the house on this thread? Some of the cladding you can zoom in on

Just found a photo that shows our larch cladding with the black uPVC over the EPS, for the ~150mm or so below the DPM level:

Hi John,

you mentioned your insulated formwork is covered with upvc (the black area under the cladding). Please can you let me know what product that is specifically? I was looking to cover ours but the only suggestion so far is fibre cement which I don't think is the best long term option. Thank you

It's just a re-purposed black uPVC fascia board, the type that has a return at the lower edge.  We used this return to cap off the end of the battens, with the small ventilation gap filled with stainless steel commercial pan scourers as an insect barrier.  I can't recall exactly which fascia we used, but it was one like these: https://www.eurocell.co.uk/fascia-boards/replacement-fascia-18mm

This sketch drawing shows how it was fitted at the base of the cladding:

thank you John for your reply and information. That is a great solution for hiding the insulation used in the raft. I will do some hunting for different board options. Just one final question. What did you do for the gaps between each board. I presume there is a trim you can buy to hide the gap? Thank you

There are trims to cover the joints and corners:

https://www.eurocell.co.uk/fascia-boards/replacement-fascia-18mm/flat-joint-trim-in-white

https://www.eurocell.co.uk/fascia-boards/replacement-fascia-18mm/capping-board-corner-trim-in-anthracite-grey

These are just cut to length and glued in place (on one side only, to allow for thermal expansion/contraction).

There are also wider trims available that may be closer to the ones I used:

https://www.selcobw.com/products/plastics-drainage/pvc-fascia-cladding/trims-corners/300-x-60mm-black-pvcu-fascia-in-line-joiner

I can't remember who I bought them from, but have a feeling that I had them added to the fascias, soffits etc that were supplied and fitted by the roofing contractor, so they all matched.
