Ok. So one of those brown is Live so goes to L.

I'll stick a meter on it and find out. I'm surprised the electrician did both wires in Brown......

But hasn't he tied the neutrals together ( in the box recess you can see the bound blues ).

Technically they are both live. Turn switch off, 1 will be live, one dead.

connect the permanent live to L

and the other to O.

leave the blues alone

Ok boss ( I think that’s what the midget guy said in fantasy island ) .

Does the relay switch thing need a neutral though ( to power it ) z wave

If you are wanting to add or control anything else then you will need to pick up a neutral as well.

the blues may be neutral, but not necessarily.

Yeah they’re neutral . So if say I stick a wago in there , tie those 2 blues together then add a 3rd to go to the z wave wall switch controller I’m all good ?

Yup.

I’m surprised tbh . Surely the sparky should mark the L from the consumer I.e power in ( if you like ) as opposed to L to the lights ( as they aren’t live until L + L ) . Just seems an easy thing to mark when installing .

It will be, by the fact that the incoming live goes to the terminal C ( common ) and the switch wires to L1 / L2 etc.

Now, more importantly, let’s have that chat about colourblind people DIY’ing their own electrical work……… ? lol.
My dads engineer was too, and had to keep coming back and forth the office with short off cuts from the vending machine wiring looms asking which colours were which :/

Sometimes I’m brave with mains electric , sometime I’m not .

Want to wire this fancy switch . Current manual switch is just the 2 browns .

Where do they go on this new switch though ? ( ‘O’ is the load ? for one of them ?? )
