I-Beam Roof Query

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

New here and relatively inexperienced although I’ve learnt a lot from my Dad who was a carpenter and could do pretty much anything building wise. We built a lot of stuff together incl garage conversions, extensions, summer houses, toy boxes, decking etc

15 or so years ago we built a large summer house, around 3m x 6m at their house. In the last six months, the roof had started leaking quite badly

My Dad passed away on Thursday. In the weeks before, he was telling me about the wooden I-Beams he had been building

My Mum showed me it a couple of days ago. Impressive as he has built the whole roof structure himself. It is up there in what looks to be it's final position

I'm curious and trying to piece together bits of the puzzle so I can finish what he started.

A couple of weeks ago, he was asking me what Visqueen I had left from my own build but not sure why. Maybe related

What would the next steps be here? Would you put OSB across the beams, visqueen it all, felt the lot, sealing the joins? Or something else? Fibre glass maybe?

Any guidance offered would be greatly appreciated, and please be kind. I'm inexperienced (sort of) but on a mission here

Pictures can come, but not yet

I can't help on the technical front but I did want to say I'm sorry to hear about the passing of your Dad and how lovely a thing it would be to finish what he'd started, particularly when you're not sure how to do it! I could imagine it'd make him very proud!
