massive step of maybe 8mm !

8 mm is not massive, I have a 12mm step (but “up” to the door) and it’s hardly noticeable. I still wonder how you will fill that gap and not snap your tiles off?..

I was being sarcastic ?

Tile adhesive ( flexible ) will fill it . Why snap the tiles off possibly?

If the tiles are not supported and being stood on. How deep is that “hole“.

I meant I'll fill the entire gap with tile adhesive . Or maybe concrete then the last 20 mm tile adhesive. Then decoupling matt over the lot THEN adhesive the tiles down. So it's all level with the screed

Strips of vinyl glued directly to the floor

Its similar price to tile
Looks and feels like timber slats I did some at our daughters old house

She seemed happy

Might of been because the Labour and materials where free ?
