Tamthebam Posted November 29, 2020 Share Posted November 29, 2020 (edited) My neighbour has a vent axis bathroom extractor fan with humidity setting. it is wired from light rose. A nearby radio ham when transmitting, is causing the fan to try to switch on and off in time with the transmissions. The ham says he is licensed properly and a fan is not a protected device like a tv or radio and is not fit for purpose, picking up a signal it is not intended. does anybody have any experience of this and have any ideas on how to approach it. ProDave Posted November 29, 2020 Share Posted November 29, 2020 The radio ham is technically right. A bathroom fan should not respond to radio signals so it is "malfunctioning". We have a thing called the EMC directive that is supposed to have stopped all this nonsense by ensuring products are properly designed to neither emit or be upset by radio signals. You could take it up with the manufacturer and point out you don't believe it does comply with the EMC directive? Or the radio ham could be a bit more helpful, borrow the fan and do some tests and probably add some filtering capacitors to cure it (complete the design and testing that should have been done by the manufacturer) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
