Tanking and cavity drain

Stable Dave

Recommended Posts

Hi there

Working on a large two storey former stables outbuilding 17m x 5m x 6.5m which needs an entirely new slab with cavity drain and a tanking membrane floor to ceiling.

Anyone had a go at this themselves? I'll be using Newton membrane and basedrain and taking out to a drain rather than using a pump as gravity is on my side and drains relatively easy to access.

Any pitfalls I should be aware of? Rather naively perhaps it seems a case of drilling holes and taping up seams for the membrane and cutting channels for the basedrain and taping that to the membrane too?

Cheers

Dave

sorry to hijack the thread, but out of interest @nod how would you create a service void on those walls? our waterproofing expert company has suggested this form of internal waterproofing (the Delta system) for our basement with a drainage channel to a sump pump but it looks like the only way to create a service void is to build another internal wall with access points for maintenance and then batten on that. They do suggest you can dot and dab plasterboard straight on to the membrane, so could you potentially dot and dab osb and then attach battens to that for a service void and then plasterboard on top?

In the past I have D&D onto the membrane when it’s been one or two walls bellow ground

But this one was much worse than I had seen before with a stream running along one side of the building and standing water in th floor

I used 50 I stud around the perimeter set 50 mil off the membrane I used Sikaflex to fix the track down Then the following day fixed deep track to the ceiling and put the studs in Then let the plumber and spark do there stuff

Absolutely nothing touching the membrane Only fixed to the ceiling

BC told me I needed to add insulation to the void I ignored him

I then added pat-tresses to the frames and boarded with 50 insulated PB

The customer had a moan about loosing 100 mill of space

The previous guy had said 12 mil of moister board would have been fine Which was a bit annoying as I’d stepped in at the last minute to help a builder friend out

I found out later that with all the framing and insulated PB I was still a couple of grand less than the no show SPECIALIST

wow! sounds complicated. hopefully our basement won't need such protection. I am also worried about losing room space. it's not so bad in most of the rooms but our plant room is in the basement and losing 100mm from that could mean things won't fit!

thanks for the response. when I get nearer to the time of finalising our basement detailing if I have more questions I'll start my own thread on the subject.

sorry again to the OP for hijacking the thread.
