Wasnt sure where this thread should go- hopefully this is a suitable place. I had been chatting to someone about the new government Green Homes Grant (due to start this September). Details arent completely clear at the moment but vouchers up to £5000 are being made available to support improvements made to homes in the form of insulation or low carbon heating.

Was just wondering if anyone knew where self builders stand in all this? Would we have to complete the build- THEN apply for a grant to help pay to install something e.g. ASHP?

Cheers!

Also interested in this and if it could help towards EWI for our renovation.  Presumably it is income dependant in some way.

There are two versions,

1) Two thirds of an approved installation up to a subsidy of £5000 for anyone in England.

2) All of approved installation up to £10000 for qualifying low income home in England

But there are some complicating conditions

Self builders are excluded (not unexpectedly IMO)

”New-build domestic properties and non-domestic properties are not eligible.”

Renovations could well qualify.

I was wondering the same.  Thinking about using immersion heater only for DHW, and then adding a ASHP post-completion to get 2/3 of price.

As mentioned not much detail at moment. New build won't be covered as the scheme is for renovation and upgrading existing housing stock. I doubt DIY will be allowed either as works will probably have to be surveyed & approved by an 'accredited' inspector and then works undertaken by an 'accredited' installer/contractor. All works to PAS 2035 standard?

This is only for England currently too. There has been nothing announced for Scotland so I assume that they will not be offering these grants.

↑. Oh damn:

"It's also confirmed new-build domestic properties […] DON'T qualify for the green home vouchers.".
