MVHR external cowl - funny bit of triangular metal - what for

For the external vents, @bpc ventilation supplied two metal cowls.  Each metal cowl includes a small triangular part:

 

What's it for and where does it go please?

I must have the same vents (bought them from ebay) and they came with the same triangle bits that I have not used. So I too am interested to know what I should have done with them.

Look like wedges - fit between the hole drilled and the vent itself to keep in place and possibly tilted at the correct angle ..?

Could it be some sort of tool to remove the terminal/filter? I'm not familiar with that make.

 

Perhaps give them a call to ask?

The Triangle bits are not for installation but we believe are used for cleaning the mesh filter if retained, it is also important that you remove the mesh if you installing these vents in a place that you can not easily get access for annual cleaning
