Bathroom starts !

Recommended Posts

Ok !

I’m nearing the point I need to start planning and doing this .

I’ve deliberately left gaps in my screed for a flush with finished floor shower .

My assumption was to treat the bathroom like a wet room I.e water proof it to the same level even though it’s not a wet room . Currently don’t know the shower enclosure we will have but assume it will just be a glass panel from floor up to ceiling . One question is how do these attach to the floor ? - some special slot fixing that gets embedded in the floor before tiling ?

I’m not looking to create another @Onoff bathroom thread - tons of useful info in there but the bibles a shorter read ??

Another question !

We haven’t chose our bath yet . I do like the solid ones - no legs ; the base sits in the floor . With those - how do you access the waste and tap feeds ? . From photos doesn’t look any obvious way .

Like this one for example.

We have a bath of a similar design but a different make.

The manufacturers way of dealing with the waste is to supply you with a flexible waste hose fitting. you stand the bath up off the floor slightly on blocks, connect the flexi waste, then remove the blocks lower the bath onto the floor and slide it into it's mounting clips.

I hated that idea.

So No 1 decision was avoid any need for the bath to ever need to come out. So that meant floor standing bath filler (as in your link) and a pop up top access waste fitting that can be serviced and cleaned from above.  AVOID any kind of waste that has a mechanism to raise the waste by rotating the overflow. Such a mechanism is prone to failure and would give you a reason to have to lift the bath out to fix it.

So having made the bath a "one time" fit.  I then attached a stub of solid 40mm waste to the trap with a suitable hole already cut in the floor, and lowered the bath into it's surround. then connected that stub of solid waste from below which happens to be in the utility room.

That room is plasterboarded and painted now but very worst case I could cut a trap in the ceiling if my plan fails and some unforeseen reason means I do have to remove the bath in the future.

Looking at the myriad of geberit in wall dual flush cistern and plates . Who would of thought choosing the cistern might be more work than the actual toilet . Assume I should build my ‘false’ wall and get this in situ along with presumably wall hung sink .

I saw this and thought it has your name written all over it. Mainly it was the price made me think that:

As a bit of an aside I half considered this:

https://www.gumtree.com/p/plumbing-central-heating/geberit-wall-hung-toilet-frames-x2-/1351844522

But tbh you couldn't get the missing bits and keep under a £100 each frame. Might offer him less.

Yeah ; i’ll Get newer because of bits etc. Looking at sigma 8cm

It says depth 80 - 110 .

Is that simply the ‘range’ of depth it fits or does it mean depending on installation it could be 110?

Ignore the sales sites, go direct to the technical pages on Geberit website.

H114 doesnt have thd odour extract facility to connect to your MVHR I don't think unless you diy it like Jeremy and now I have.

This page gives the current frames and usefully the flush plates available:

Data sheet for H114:

ProductDataSheet_PRO_168879.pdf

You're better using the product number when searching for best price etc imo for the 8cm one its:

111.799.00.1

Maybe look at the 12cm 111.353.00.5? Has odour take off. Installation bumpf here:

Thanks . Not sure 12cm will fit . The depth from timber frame until ufh is 100cm

I’ll stick some photos up with dimensions so advice can be given ! . How does ‘odor’ extract work ? Fan in bog ? ??

See the flush pipe comes up to the cistern, it branches off to the right at an angle.  Until you flush the vertical pipe is empty to the pan so can suck up any nasty niffs. That angled pipe links to your extract:

Whereas the 8cm one lacks the angled take off pipe:

Shouldn’t need it as a Sigma frame comfortably fits inside a 95mm stud wall.

The 8cm one does:

But this is the 12cm one with the odour extract (could be wrong):
