  1. Hi all, whilst waiting for the building warrant I'm getting into details. My proposed build will be timber frame, with an external layer of 100mm wood fibre insulation on the exterior wall. The original plan was to render this, but with documented issues, I've changed tack and will be cladding with Hardie board. When it comes to the installation of the Hardie board I need to be able to fix the corner trims securely, but with 100mm wood fibre this is difficult. I've drawn a solution and welcome comments. (just realised my Stud layout is not correct- forgive me, but the details work) main questions would be, as i've never cut wood fibre, how easy will it be to cut the rebate in the ends of the boards, I have a large table saw / circular saws etc. Does anybody see an easier solution? Any problems? TIA A thought I've just had as typing this, as the frame will be made on site, is to change 1 of the corner studs to 10x2, thus removing the 4x2? need to draw this might need some really long screws.
  2. My build up for the walls and roof includes a layer of 40mm Steico Protect dry internal wood fibre board. This is out of stock with all the merchants I have approached (Mark Wye, insulationsuperstore and ecomerchant) and most are quoting very long lead times of up to 10 weeks. Can anybody suggest an alternative which would have the same decrement delay properties. Someone has suggested Phenolic Foam based product Kooltherm K7, made by Kingspan, on the basis that it has a density of 200kg/m3, but I don't think it will have the same decrement delay just because of the density. Any thoughts?
  3. Hey everyone. I am on the case trying to find a good reasonably priced source for Pavaflex/Pavatherm - can anyone advise? We've found some online that would be shipped from afar. Our house is 150sqm and the cost is currently sitting around about 13k-15k for the insulation. Would love to be able to shave some off that... We have quite strict planning conditions and our wall build up all relies on this product, so there's no option to change the material (before anyone suggests we use Kingspan!) Any advice on sourcing this and installing it would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance. Joanna
  4. We are planning to lay bamboo flooring to our ground floor, using the Uniclic system. But I am quite confused re the thermal properties of their recommended underlay. My preference is for their 5.5mm Fibreboard https://www.bambooflooringcompany.com/fibreboard.html which has a thermal conductivity of 0.050W/mK. their other products are Silver Bam with a 0.9 tog and CushNWood with a tog rating of 1. Which of these gives the best thermal insulation? What does 1 tog relate to?? It would help if they used the same measurements. Any help with this will be appreciated.
