  1. Hi, Having looked at the PD technical guidelines, my planned extension seems to fall between the examples shown for rear and side extensions. The original house is in blue below, with a side extension built in 2008 shown in orange. I'm hoping my new rear extension shown in green is covered under PD? I know the example on page 26 of the guidelines shows that a rear extension cannot protrude beyond the original side walls, but if the the previous extension already does this surely my new rear extension isn't restricted under PD? My scenario is slightly different to the ones in the guidelines. Also, my new rear extension wont be running in to the side or across the whole back of the previous extension, it just slightly straddles both the original rear walls and the previous extension rear wall due to a doorway into the orange extension (my new extension is replacing a conservatory on the same footprint which has a doorway in to the previous extension). I'm basically hoping that only the rear guidelines apply, which wouldn't include the half width rule. What do you think?
  2. Hi, first post but hopefully a quick and straightforward answer, so thanks in advance. had a quick search on the forum but couldn't see anything obvious where this had been discussed. we are looking to get a wraparound single storey extension on our semi detached house. Due to the odd shape of our land, the side part of the extension starts half way back so will not span the length of the house, so completely subordinate to original structure. As it's wraparound we know we will need to seek planning permission. This is fine. the question is how wide can this side part of the extension be. I see 'can be up to 50% the width of the original structure' in many places, but what isn't clear if this is a hard and fast rule, or whether it's only for PD purposes only. As we would seek planning permission can we break this 50% rule?. To put it into context, our house is 5M wide, so 50% would add a further 2.5M. Based on our own layout ideas we would want to take this nearer to 3M, but no greater. The rear would also go out to 3M. The house is only 10 years old so has no previous extensions. Thanks John
  3. 102mm, well done. Pass Go, collect £100. Its not a deliberately stupid question. Everywhere we go , I've recently been surreptitiously measuring door widths. I try hard not to let Debbie see me do so - not entirely successfully. Door widths are important - but 102mm difference? Does so little make so much difference? Why not 964? Thinking about bedrooms upstairs, why would I choose 864 over 762? Yep, I'm of a certain age, yep, the usual is happening.
  4. My oven housing is 600 wide, external measurement with an internal width of 570mm but it seems that most single ovens say they are 600mm wide. I want to assume that means they fit into a 600 wide unit as the housing doesn't come in a wider size but can someone please confirm that or otherwise for me please. I can't afford another expensive mistake
